About KC Town Hall

Together we are bringing back the historic "KC Town Hall" building at 36th Street and Indiana Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.

Join us in restoring this long abandoned building to create a permanently affordable community space. Julia and Jamie will make their homeplace in one of the apartments above. The street-level retail spaces will meet the needs of the immediate neighborhood, put daily necessities within walkable distance, and amplify a thriving and unique community of place.

Julia & Jamie

We are Julia and Jamie! For many years we searched for a long-abandoned mixed-use corner-store-type building with apartments above in Kansas City to restore as our lifelong family homeplace. As we build our home we are making spaces for permanently affordable community, culture, and neighborhood walkability together with a growing cohort of family, friends and neighbors!

Jamie Burkart grew up in midtown Kansas City. He studied Film and Digital Media at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where Julia was earning her double major in Mathematics and Art. They met in math class and eventually married blissfully. Jamie is a software developer and socially engaged artist. Past works connected Kansas Citians with the Missouri, Kansas, and Blue Rivers to re-activate latent historic connections within and between river cities. In 2007 he organized a collaborative group of friends and strangers to design and build a bicycle-powered paddle wheel raft which they navigated from Kansas City to New Orleans (KC Star) with the help of hundreds of people in river cities along the way.

Julia Fredenburg began her career in public service in Kansas City with the City Council, working with Council Members Russ Johnson and Jan Marcason. She attended Columbia University in New York and received a Masters in Public Administration, focusing on equitable economic development and systems for reducing competition across city lines.

We found that place at Indiana Avenue and 36th Street in Kansas City, Missouri.
